Auction of the committee members, usually held at Terracon. Used to be for books until it was decided that this meant a lot of effort for the purchasers, and a lot of bad books for the club. The committee are now auctioned for money, sometimes in the triple digits when bidding gets fierce. Has also been, at various times, been for various fictional Terracon currencies such as lucre.
The purchased committee member must do whatever the purchaser says, as long as they don't find it "morally objectionable". The purchaser has a year to make their request, and many don't get around to it.
Actions performed as a "slave" have included
- shaving off half a beard (divided vertically) and remaining that way for the rest of the day's lectures
- being tied to a chair, dressed as a baby, and fed during a club meeting
- many menial tasks such as cleaning Terracon huts
- convincingly arguing the merits of the works of Robert Heinlein
- men cross dressing
Currently the rule is that if the successful bidder doesn't pay off their debt by the next slave auction, then they become owned by the committee member.
